The midterm elections are over and the ballots should be counted, except for the ones mailed late yesterday.
If you have to wait until the last minute to make up your mind on who to vote for, then it makes me wonder if you waited for the last repeated TV commercial to influence your judgment.
I have seen a bunch of commercials for candidates. After the ad is done I have no idea what they stand for or believe in. I do know that if you vote for their opponent the world will come to an end just before Happy Hour begins.
Politics is a brutal.
If I were elected president, I would make it mandatory that all ads be fact-checked before airing. If they are filled with lies, then they will be banned.
If banned ads are broadcast thereafter, then a rather large fine will be levied and the money will be given to the opponents’ campaign. I think fact-checking would make the ads a little less abusive and force the campaign to be honest.
At the debates, I would hook up the candidates to a lie detector and the results of the answers would be seen clearly by the audience and the viewers at home. Of course, the professional liar may have an advantage but only for a little while as the fact checkers take over.
I think that too many people are influenced by media not giving both sides of what the candidates’ beliefs. Too many people – especially the elderly – are led to believe that their lives will mean nothing if candidate B is elected. As an elderly person myself, that is wrong.
Hopefully today, we can return to a normalcy and be civil to each other.
