Bronco girls open state against Goldendale

Tournament begins Thursday in SunDome

YAKIMA – The Bronco girls will open the state 2B volleyball tournament at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, against the Goldendale Timbewolves.

The state B tournament will take place in the Yakima SunDome both Thursday and Friday, Nov. 10 and 11.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucan/Harrington comes into the game with a 14-3 overall record as the No. 3 team out of the Northeast 2B league. The Bronco girls are ranked 11th overall in the state.

Goldendale comes into the game as the No. 6 team in the state with a record of 15-0 and a Eastern Washington Athletic Conference-West title.

It’s the fourth straight title for the Timberwolves and their third perfect season in a row.

The Timberwolves are led by senior Gwen Gilliam and Kennedy Berry.

The Broncos are led by NE2B Most Valuable Player Taylor Galbreath, and All-League players Megan Melcher, Saige Galbreath and Zoe Galbreath.

They are coached by NE2B Coach of the Year Cari Galbreath.

The winner of the game will play the winner of the No. 14 Okanogan vs. No. 3 LaConner matchup that starts at 9:45 a.m.

Other NE2B teams reaching the state tournament are Liberty (Spangle), second in district and the No. 7 state ranked team; and Colfax, district

champion and the No. 4 ranked team in the state.

The Liberty girls defeated the Broncos, 3-1, in the early rounds of district play. But the Broncos won their last two games to qualify for state. (See story on Page B1.)

The Colfax will face No. 13 Granger and Liberty plays Brewester; both of those games start at 9:45 a.m.

All the NE2B teams will play at least twice on Thursday; they’ll have to win at least once to advance to Day 2 of the state tournament.

While the Broncos take the court in the state 2B tournament, Odessa will be playing in the state 1B class.

Odessa will open state play at 1:30 p.m. Thursday against Liberty Christian.

Odessa is the state’s No. 12 seed and Liberty Chrstian enters at No. 5.

The St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles bid for a repeat state appearance ended Saturday, Nov. 5, at DeSales High School in the Southeast 1B district tournament.

The Eagle girls swept Colton 3-0 in a loser-out consolation game at 10 a.m. to advance to a loser-out/winner-to-state game against league rival Pomeroy.

The Pirates shot down the Eagles, 3-2.
