Huskie runners compete in District 5/6 meet

TIETON – The Othello Huskies girls and boys finished seventh and ninth, respectively in the District 5/6 2A Cross Country Championship at Apple Ridge Cross Country Course.

The boys scored 236 team points; Selah won with a low of 53 points, followed by Ellensburg with 70, Ephrata with 95 and Pullman with 99.

The Othello girls finished last as a team with 181 points. Ellensburg, West Valley (Spokane Valley) and Selah finished first, second and third, respectively with team low points of 52, 72 and 79.

The fastest boy from Adams County was sophomore Sylas Garza, finishing the 3-mile course 33rd with a time of 17:33. Freshman Daniel Gonzalez was 39th with 17:46.

Other Huskie harriers included junior Adriel Flores, 56th, 18:41; freshman Joshua Atilano, 57th, 18:42; senior Nickolas Fuller, 61st, 19:51; and sophomore Joshua Macy, 62nd, 19:55.

In the girls 3-mile, Othello freshman Kimberly Alcaraz secured a state berth, finishing 17th overall with a time of 20:11.

Other Adams County girls in the race included sophomore Sophia Garza, 40th, 22:36; junior Lucy Giles, 50th, 23:45; sophomore Claire Gilbert, 51st, 23:47; freshman Estrella Guzman-Rodriguez, 55th, 25:29; and freshman Fernanda Rodriguez, 56th, 25:30.

The state cross country meet takes place on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
