Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
From June to August of this year, 11 catalytic converters were reported stolen in Lind and Ritzville, according to records provided by the Adams County Sheriff and City of Ritzville Police departments.
Most catalytic converter thefts occur late at night and may involve loud reciprocal saws or other power tools. Prime targets are vehicles with elevated undercarriages, such as trucks and recreational vehicles.
According to chapelhilltire.com, “The first sign of a stolen catalytic converter is incredibly loud vehicle noises… when driving without your catalytic converter, it will sound like your vehicle is roaring—especially when starting or giving it gas.”
As summer gives way to cooler weather, catalytic converter thefts may decline locally. Nevertheless, law enforcement encourages residents to continue reporting thefts and suspicious behavior. Insurance companies also may require a police report to support theft claims.
