Five injured in Hwy 24 crash

OTHELLO – Five people were hospitalized after being ejected Wednesday, Aug. 17, from a vehicle that flipped near Milepost 49 of state Highway 24, west of the city.

Othello residents Aleyssa J. Hernandez, 21; Victoria F. DellaToree, 19; Freddy Gonzalez Rodgriguez, 19; and Trinidad Rodriguez Gonalez, 16; and Toppenish resident Elisia D. Reyes, 16; were all transported to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland for injuries they sustained in the 3:50 p.m. crash.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Hernandez was westbound in a 2014 Honda Accord when she failed to make a curve and left the roadway.

The Honda overturned and her passengers were ejected, the patrol reported. Hernandez was only partially ejected.

The vehicle crashed into a barbed wire fence before coming to rest, the patrol said.

The cause of the crash was listed as wheels off road, a patrol report said. Neither alcohol nor drugs were believed to be factors.

The driver and passengers were not wearing seatbelts, the patrol said.
