Boat launched closed for revamp

OTHELLO – The Glen Williams Access Area at the Potholes Reservoir will be closed for construction until Dec. 15.

Construction on the estimated $800,000 boat launch improvement project began Monday, Aug. 15.

Boat launch improvements include installing a new ramp, an Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant loading area, and paving and striping of the launch area. New concrete vault toilets and a board float will be installed at a later date when supplies and materials are available.

The renovations will double the boat launch ramp and make it steeper, officials said, noting a kiosk and new entrance gates are also planned.

State Department of Fish and Wildlife officials said the work began Monday to take advantage of low water this time of year.

"A little inconvenience now will mean a much more user-friendly and safe access area in the future," water access manager Josh Harmon said. "The ramp is in poor shape, so I think most folks will understand and appreciate the end result."

While Glen Williams Access Area is closed, state officials recommend using launches at MarDon Resort, Potholes State Park and the Blythe access area.
