No other Adams County races show contributions
RITZVILLE – If campaign finance wins an election, Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner of Othello is bound to retain his seat.
Wagner faced challenger Matthew Carlson of Ritzville in the Aug. 2 primary; The Journal went to press before initial election returns were posted.
With only two candidates, both Wagner and Carlson advance to the Nov. 8 general election.
As of Monday, Wagner was reporting nearly $15,000 in campaign contributions while Carlson was reporting $0.
According to the state Public Disclosure Commission, the contest is the only local race showing any campaign finance reports.
Wagner reported receiving $12,650 in contributions and $2,000 in loans for a total of $14,650. He reported spending $9,809.23.
The commission reported $7,500 in contributions came from business and $5,150 from individuals.Donors contributing more than $300 to Wagner’s campaign include:
• $1,000 – Adance Agronomy, Farmers Electric, West Side Mobile Park, Gary Weaver, Tom Kummer Farms, Jake Para, all of Othello; and Boersma Farms of Warden.
• $750 -- 3 Brothers Farm of Othello.
• $500 -- Anderson Farms, Liftem Tanks (Benjamin Garza) and Bartelheimer (Ernestina Or and Alan Decker).
• $300 – Ned Bernath of Ritzville, and Tomas Solano and Joe’s Excavation, both of Othello.
Other contributors are Juan G. Rodriguez of Othello, $200; Ken Dokins of Othello, $200; Bob’s Korner of Othello, $200; Leroy Watson Jr. of Lind, $125; Valborg M. Watson of Lind, $125; Sandra Gearhart of Othello, $100; Hampton Rock of Othello, $250; Lynn J. Olsen of Othello, $250; Cale Yount of Othello, $100; Brooke Yount of Othello, $100; Lindsy Prows of Othello, $250; Anthony Prows of Othello, $250; and George H. Colley of Othello, $250.
Ritzville Police Chief David McCormick also contributed $100 to Wagner’s campaign.
Wagner reported the following expenses from his campaign fund:
• Ace Hardware of Othello -- $94.74, $60.12 and $81.12 for hardware
• Amazon of Spokane -- $354.44, $142.87 and $323.70 for merchandise
• Cox Designs of Moses Lake -- $2,573 and $2,816.45 for campaign signs
• Gracie Garza of Othello -- $2,596.80 for campaign signs and banners
• N.W. Farm Supply of Othell0 -- $189.08, $235.54 and $189.08 for hardware.
He also had smaller campaign expenses reported.
Challenger Carlson has spent $1,663.67 on his campaign, but is reporting $0 in contributions, commission records show.
Carlson reported the following expenses:
Banners on the Cheap of Austin, Texas -- $676.07, $427.06, $348.48 and $212.06 for campaign banners.
He also had one expense of less than $50.
Both candidates are headed to the general election Nov. 8.
County candidates Catherine R. Sloan for clerk, Heidi K. Hunt for auditor, Miguel A. “Mike” Garza and Terry J. Thompson for commissioner, Randy J. Flyckt for prosecuting attorney and Veronica Rodriguez for assessor reported they did not receive any contributions or spend money on their campaigns, commission records show.
