FBLA members return from Chicago conference

RITZVILLE – The Lind-Ritzville chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America had an eventful trip to its national conference in Chicago, Ill., earlier this month. The theme of the June 29-July 2 conference was "Success Starts Here."

After taking home third-place in the parliamentary procedure category at the State FBLA Leadership conference in Spokane earlier this year, the team was one of several from the local area to move on to nationals in Illinois' Windy City.

At the national conference, students worked on knowledge tests for parliamentary procedure. "Placing in the Top 15 in the knowledge test means you get to the presentation round, where [they] are given a meeting scenario to present, and are judged on the team's ability to solve the scenario using parliamentary procedure," adviser Steve Greenwalt.

The team comprising Hunter Dinkins, Owen Telecky, Bronc Hutsell, Hayden Melcher and Cooper Miller did not make it to the presentation round this year, but chapter officers are already at work preparing next year's program.

Aside from the conference, students had the opportunity to tour the city, catching such highlights as the Navy Pier and a Chicago Cubs home game at Wrigley Field.

Next year's national conference will take place in Atlanta, Georgia.
