Kinch wins District pole vault

Steinberger leads local boys

LIBERTY LAKE – Lind-Ritzville senior Sydney Kinch won the girls pole vault at the 2B District 7 Championship, held Friday and Saturday, May 20 and 21, at Ridgeline High School.

Kinch cleared a personal best 10-00.00 in winning the event. She also won the long jump with a leap of 16-03.00.

As a team, the Broncos didn't fair as well.

The girls finished ninth overall with 24.5 points. Davenport won the girls title with 170, followed by Jenkins (Chewelah) with 129.5.

The Bronco boys was also fell short of a district team title, finishing sixth overall with 51 points.

St. George's won the District7 team title with 180 points, followed by Davenport with 83.5 point.s

Girls results

Lind-Ritzville junior Myra Miller took second in discus with a throw of 108-04.50. Miller was fifth in shot put with a throw of 29-01.00.Haylee Appleford of Asotin won both events.

Kinch and Miller teamed up with Savannah Carruth and Claire Wellsandt to take third in the 4x100 relay, posting a time of 54.83, and finishing behind first-place St. George's (52.14) and second-place Colfax (54.29).

Kinch finished fifth in the 100-meter with a time of 13.48.

Boys results

Lind-Ritzville sophomore Shawn Steinberger tied for fourth in pole vault, with Mathew Morgan of Colfax, clearing 8-06.00. Zachary Cooper of Colfax won the event clearing 10-00.00.

Steinberger finished 5th in the 400-meter with a time of 55.34 seconds.

Lind-Ritzville sophomore Brock Kinch finished sixth in both the 100- and 200-meter races, with times of 12.19 and 25.29, respectively. Cody Gilroy of Jenkins (Chewelah) won both races.

Steinberger and Kinch teamed with Blake Earle and Zac Moore to finish sixth in the 4x100 relay in a time of 48.69 seconds.

The WIAA 2B State Championships are scheduled for May 26-28 at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
