Flags to fly Memorial Day

RITZVILLE – In observance of Memorial Day, the flags are flying throughout the area and Ritzville Cemetery.

Scouts and other volunteers will also be putting flags on the graves of area veterans in many communities.

The main flag at Ritzville Cemetery will be at half-staff from 6 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 30. After that, the flag will be raised to full-staff until sunset, in accordance with the tradition of honoring the nation's battle heroes.

Skydivers are also expected to show their colors on Memorial Day at Skydive West Plains.

Organizers said residents and visitors should be watching the sky northeast of the city for their Memorial Day Weekend Shenanigans.

The annual Firemen’s Breakfast is also planned from 7-11 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the fire station.

In and around Odessa, veterans groups are planning a more formal observance at some rural cemeteries, in addition to flying more flags.
