Annual burn ban looms for Adams County
RITZVILLE — Adams County’s annual burn ban goes into effect June 1.
The ban will remain in effect through Sept. 30 in unincorporated areas fo the county, Adams COunty Fire Marshal Andie Lorenz said.
Permitted agricultural and orchard burning are still allowed and campfires are allowed in approved devices at public campgrounds.
Residential recreational fires in private fire pits are allowed as long as there is 25 feet of non-combustible space around the fire pit, and gas and charcoal grills are allowed.
Large cooking fires for public and private events must be permitted through the Adams County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Election filing period opens next week
RITZVILLE — Nine local offices will open for candidate filing beginning Monday, May 16.
Adams County offices up for grabs in this year include assessor, auditor, clerk, prosecuting attorney, sheriff, treasurer, District No. 3 commissioner and District Court judges Position Nos. 1 and 2.
The filing period runs through 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, in person, or 4 p.m. online.
Filings are accepted in person at the Adams County Elections Office, 106 W. Main St., or online by selecting “Elections” on the menu at the right side of the Adams County website.
Students place in math contest
RITZVILLE – Three Lind-Ritzville High School Students placed in the State Math Contest.
Amelia Court, David Hinkle and Reeta Dean placed sixth out of 14 teams in the Team Problem contest recently, school officials said.
Individually, Hinkle placed 12th out of 28 students, and third among high school juniors.
