Attorneys will ask rehearing
of Gibbons Case
The Gibbons case, as the case of the State of Washington vs. Fred Gibbons is known, has come into sudden statewide prominence as the result of the decision of the Supreme Court in which Gibbons was granted a new trial because in the Court's opinion his arrest was unlawful and the use of the liquor in the automobile which was obtained without a search warrant, was improper.
At the meeting of peace officers at Bellingham this week the case is being discussed. The following article appeared Saturday in the Seattle Times:
"Law enforcement officers will join next week in a general petition to the State Supreme Court to reconsider its recent decision declaring it unlawful to search automobiles without warrants on the highways.
"They frankly fear, they say, if the conclusion reached by the court is allowed to stand as a law that "Liquor running from British Columbia will be given an unprecedented boom."

Old transformer ends
service with explosion
Old age and a constant overload cause one of the three large transformers in the Pacific Power and Light Co.'s substation to explode last Wednesday at 3:40 p.m.
Neither Mr. Alderidge or Mr. Huber happened to be in the yard at the time.
The explosion was caused by a bushing going to pieces in side the transformer, therefore 110,000 volts were grounded inside the transformer.

Controlled burn guts
old Lincoln School
Controlled burning Saturday of the old Lincoln School was termed a success by Fire Chief Len Folland.
"In an hour's time most of the flames were through, and the fire cleaned up the mess pretty good," said Folland. He said that though coals still were in the smoldering interior ground area late Saturday night, it wasn't all that hot it could cause concern.
At 7 a.m. standing in the top floor area a fireman began pouring gasoline onto the floor from a five-gallon can. He walked slowly down the stairway. In the front entryway he recircled several times, pouring all the way until the can was empty.
Chief Folland three three matches at the wet gasoline floor before the flames took off.

Repairs down the drain
as road again washes out
Old Man Winter seems to have it in for Adams County this season, or at least for the Paha-Packard Road as it washed out for the second time in as many weeks.
Crews completed the first set of repairs on Friday afternoon and reopened the short piece of roadway between Rosenoff Road and Interstate 90. Warming temperatures and a light snowfall on Friday night again sent water rushing down gullies on Saturday and the road again fell victim to the weather.
While the four-foot diameter culvert was not pushed into the field as far as in the first washout, an approximately 15-foot trench again awaits repair by county road crews.
