RITZVILLE – The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague boys basketball game Jan. 4 against Northwest Christian (Colbert) is postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests in the local program.
The girls game against the Crusaders is also postponed.
Both games are expected to be played Jan. 21, at home in Gilson Gymnasium.
Because of the issues, all athletic practices were cancelled Jan. 6, when the school district went to remote learning due to inclement weather.
On Jan. 7, the Bronco basketball teams traveled to Chewelah, where both boys and girls teams put on a scoring display against the Jenkins Cougars.
The boys won, 75-41, over the winless Cougars.
Chase Galbreath scored 17 points, Brock Kinch had 15 and Jayce Kelly had 14 in the win.
Not to be outdone, the girls won, 72-19, over the 1-7 Cougars.
Dakota Killian scored 27 points, Grace Fedie had 16 and Amelia Court had 11.
On Jan. 8, the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague boys hosted Kettle Falls (3-7 overall and 0-3 in league).
The Broncos posted a 63-41 win over the Bulldogs.
Galbreath lead all scorers with 27 points, while Kelly had 11.
The local girls fell to Kettle Falls, 59-23.
Killian had 6 points, while Harlee Hennings, Sydney Kinch and Amelia Court each had 4.
The Broncos game at Davenport, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 14 had to be postponed.
In a Jan. 12 email from Athletic Director Greg Whitmore, the game was tentatively rescheduled for Saturday Feb. 5, just two days before the District Tournament is scheduled to tip off.
The game was postponed due to coronavirus issues at both schools.
The upcoming games at Upper Columbia Academy (Spangle) on Jan. 19, are also postponed due to COVID issues in Lions’ program.
Whitmore said that game, too, will be rescheduled, but no date was announced.
Looking ahead, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague is scheduled to host Northwest Christian (Colbert) on Jan. 21, in a game rescheduled from Jan. 4.
And next Saturday, Jan. 22, the Broncos are scheduled to host St George’s (Spokane), and then welcome Odessa to Gilson Gym on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
Currently, the girls have a record of 3-8 overall, 1-1 in league play, and are in sixth place in league standings. The boys are 7-3 overall, 3-1 in league play and hold fifth place in league standings.
