Crack train goes in ditch
The North Coast Limited, Northern Pacific train No. 1, which is due here daily at 8:25 p.m., west bound went in to the ditch last Thursday night at Emery, a siding just across the line in Franklin County, south of Hatton.
The last three cars in the train, two Pullmans and an observation car, rolled over onto their sides. No one was killed but several were injured and bruised, though none very seriously.
The accident occurred at 9:45 p.m., and it was some time before the relief train from Pasco reached the scene of the wreck and took some of the passengers to Pasco where the injured were treated.
The cause attributed to the accident, according to some reports, is a broken rail. It is rumored that the derailment might have been caused by some "wobblies," but no direct evidence of this has been reported.

Dock strike shrinks heat markets
The continuing dock strike may result in a 30 per cent reduction of overseas markets for the Northwest's white wheat, Snell Weatherford told Chamber of Commerce members attending their weekly luncheon yesterday.
In a fact-filled talk tinged with crisis warnings, the secretary of the Washington Association of Wheat Growers said: "It might mean the difference whether some of you are here five years from now or not."
"There will be more empty stores along Main Street and a decrease in the population in wheat country," said Weatherford. He cited wheat exports for the Northwest of about 107 million bushels a year.
Some 76 million bushels of that, he continued are for cash sale.
A loss of half the cash market, which seems entirely possible, would mean a reduction of markets by 30 percent, in turn idling 30 percent of the wheat acres if satisfactory crop alternatives cannot be found.

Broncos lead west
for division title
The Ritzville Lady Broncos had just one contest for the past week, but it was enough to firmly put them in the lead for the Bi-County Western Division title.
Friday night the Broncos will travel to Reardan for a game with the Indians who lead the Eastern Divsion and remain undefeated for the season.
On Saturday night the Broncos hosted the Liberty Lancers and sent them home with a 70-47 loss.
The Broncos "got hot early," said Bronco Coach John Foulkes, and they jumped to a 25-10 point lead.
