St. John, Odessa place in 1B state volleyball

Eagles sweep Odessa in trophy game for third

YAKIMA – The St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles girls volleyball team finished third in the state 1B tournament in the Yakima Valley SunDome.

The Eagles topped Odessa, 25-21, 25-20, 25-13 to win the third-place trophy on Friday, Nov. 12. The Odessa Tigers brought home the fourth-place trophy.

The Eagles made it to the trophy game after crushing Willapa Valley and Wilbur-Creston, both in three sets, to open the tournament, Thursday, Nov. 11. In the semifinal game Friday, Nov. 12, the Eagles were shot down by the Mossyrock Mountaineers, 3-0.

The Mountaineers finished in second place after losing in the state title game to Oakesdale, 3-2.

The Tigers reached the trophy game by topping district rival Republic, 3-1, and then sweeping Neah Bay, 3-0, on Thursday.

In the their semifinal, they were swept by the Oakesdale.
