Broncos to play Loggers in state quarterfinals

Football game set for 1 p.m. at Gonzaga Prep

SPOKANE — The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos will play the Onalaska Loggers in the state 2B football playoff quarterfinals Saturday, Nov. 20.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. at Gonzaga Prepatory School, 1224 E. Euclid Ave.

The No. 5-seeded Loggers (5-5, 3-2 in league) enter the game after beating the River View (Finley) Panthers, 62-8, in the opening round of the 2B football playoffs, Nov. 13, at Tiger Stadium in Centralia.

The undefeated Broncos (9-0) are coming off a bye week as the No. 4 seed.

On Nov. 6, the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna varsity football team won its home District 6/7 crossover playoff game against Manson, 41-0, to get into the playoffs.

It's been an up-and-down season for the Loggers, who finished second in the 2B Central league.

The Loggers are in the playoffs for the third consecutive season. They also played two of the Top 4 teams in the playoffs this year, Kalama and Napavine. The Loggers lost at Kalama, 58-6, Oct.16, and were beaten at home by Napavine, 34-20, on Sept. 10.

Onalaska brings an experienced team, with nine seniors on the 27-man roster. A pair of senior runningback/linebackers, No. 9 Kolby Mozingo and No. 20 Gunnar Talley, will be a concern for the Broncos on both sides of the ball.

Mozingo has 41 carries, 545 yards and six touchdowns on the season and Talley adds 41 carries for 470 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Loggers also have Marshall Haight at full-back, with 188 carries, 1,513 yards and 22 touchdowns.

The Broncos bring running back Brody Boness into the game with 57 carries, 423 yards and nine touchddowns. Wide receiver Hunter Dinkins is also an offensive weapon with 30 catches for 543 yards and eight touchdowns.

At quarterback, the Broncos Chase Galbreath leads a strong attack; he has completed 109-of-172 passes for 1,555 yards and 20 touchdowns.
