RITZVILLE — The Broncos girls opened the Northeast 2B district tournament by sweeping the Crusaders on Monday night, Nov. 1, at home in Gilson Gymnasium.
The No. 2 seed Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna topped Northwest Christian (Colbert) in straight sets, 25-11, 25-10 and 25-18.
The Broncos never trailed in any set. Dakota Killian had a good night blocking in the middle.
Following the match head Coach Cari Galbreath said, “This was fun. We stayed steady and controlled the game.” She went on to say “we were not distracted.”
Elsewhere in NE2B district action, two teams scored upsets in the opening round. No. 5 seed Upper Columbia Academy upset No. 4 seed Asotin and No. 6 seed Liberty (Spangle) knocked off No. 3 seed Jenkins (Chewelah).
In the last quarterfinal matchup, No. 1 seed Colfax beat No. 8 seed Reardan.
The four winning teams advance to the district tournament semifinals.
The Broncos will host the Liberty Lancers and Colfax will host the Upper Columbia Lions. Both games get underway at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The two winners will advance to the district title game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4.
In the consolation round, Reardan plays at Asotin and Northwest Chrisitian is at Jenkins in loser-out games at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
