RITZVILLE – The girls high school volleyball season was scheduled to get under way here Tuesday, Sept. 7.
The local Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos will host Class 2B perennial powerhouse Colfax.
Gametime was 6:30 p.m. in the gym at the high school, 209 E. Wellsandt Road. Results of the matchup weren’t available at press time.
“It is a big league match,” Lind-Ritzville Athletic Director Greg Whitmore said in an email Monday.
Colfax is coming off an undefeated spring season, a season that was delayed due to coronavirus shutdown orders.
The season is also starting for other schools in the league.
In addition to the local game Tuesday, Upper Columbia Academy was traveling to Reardan, Asotin was at Northwest Christian (Colbert) and Davenport was playing at Liberty (Spangle).
On Saturday, Davenport hosted several schools for a jamboree.
Few results were reported from the event, but in one score, the Davenport Gorillas fell to the Class 1B Odessa Tigers, 2-0. Set scores were 25-11, 25-22.
Like last spring, the school is requiring spectators to wear masks in compliance with an order issued by Gov. Jay Inslee and supported by the state Department of Health and state Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
All coaches and other support employees are required to wear masks, too, as are players when they are not on the court.
“Spectators are encouraged to sit in family units and maintain 3-foot spacing,” he said.
