Sprague graduation a memorable occasion

SPRAGUE – Seven students graduated in the Class of 2021 from Sprague High School, with each one of them playing a role in the afternoon commencement ceremony Saturday, June 5.

Samuel Michels gave the welcome and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Malea Canaday gave the Valedictorian speech, followed by Salutatorian Kelsey Billigmeir.

Canaday also gave recognition to parents.

Future plans of graduates were covered by Billigmeir and Kylee Longie.

Introducing class speaker Mac McGrath was senior Thomas Schermerhorn.

Bryson Habbestad introduced the class video, produced by social studies teacher Mr. Brent Houston.

Awards and Scholarships were presented by school superintendent and principal Mr. Bill Ressel, who handed out the diplomas along with Mrs. Ringwood.

Serena Block gave the closing speech.

Also participating in the commencement ceremony, as candle lighters, were Alana Billigmeier, Caelynne Lowe, Rose Block, Laynie Brittain, Heaven Lopez, Johnny Melville, Emmareese Fortin, Michael Fortin, Adah Michels, Eli Michels, Tucker Osborne and Turner Osborne.

The class's motto, a quote by Dr. Seuss, seemed especially fitting on their graduation day:

"Sometimes, you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory."

Scholarships earned by the Sprague Class of 2021

Kelsey Billigmeier: She received $28,470 in scholarships for her first year of college at Washington State University.

Serena Block: She received $2,250 in scholarships for attendance at Spokane Falls Community College.

Melea Canaday: She received $22,475 in scholarships and will be attending Eastern Washington University.

Kylee Longie: She received $28,500 in scholarships, and will be attending Whitworth College.

Thomas Schermerhorn: He received a $300 scholarship and will be attending Spokane Falls Community College.
