Girls win three, drop one

LRS to host Davenport Friday, May 28

RITZVILLE – The Bronco girls basketball team is 3-1 after winning three games and losing a close match in Kettle Falls by two points Friday, May 21.

The girls had the lead in the first half with the score 14-10 at first quarter's end, and 21-19 at halftime.

They kept the lead at the end of the third quarter, 28-24. In the final quarter, Kettle Falls scored 14 points to the Broncos' 8, for a final score of 36-38.

Head Coach Steve Wellsandt said highlights of the Kettle Falls battle included Janaye Wilkie leading on scoring, with 17 points and 8 defensive rebounds. Julia Klein had eight offensive rebounds.

"We just didn't shoot well, just 25% from the field and 4-17 from the free throw line," Wellsandt said.

The Broncos hosted Chewelah the next night, beating them 58-37.

"The Chewelah game we did shoot better. Sydney Kinch and Dakota Killian led us on scoring with 13 and 12," Wellsandt said. "Janaye had a high 9 assists, and Julia had 12 rebounds, with 10 of them offensive rebounds."

Earlier in the week, the girls had back to back games against Northwest Christian and Reardan.

They hosted the Reardan Indians Tuesday, beating them 44-26. Taylor Galbreath led in scoring with 14, followed by Julia Klein with 12.

Their first game, Monday night away against Northwest Christian, the Broncos won 44-38. Grace Fedie led in scoring with 11, followed by Killian with 10. Amelia Court scored 8 points, Klein 7, Kinch 6, and Galbreath 2.

The girls were scheduled to host Colton Tuesday, May 25 at 5:30.

Both boys and girls will host Davenport Friday, May 28. The girls varsity starts at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
