Pedestrian killed in crosswalk
EPHRATA – A Soap Lake woman was deceased at the scene when she was struck by a vehicle as she was crossing Highway 28 (Basin Street) in a painted crosswalk in Ephrata Wednesday, April 21.
Larissa M. Castillo, 32, of Ephrata, was driving southbound on 1st Avenue in a Ford 350 pickup truck. While turning east onto Highway 28 (Basin Street), the vehicle Castillo was driving struck Stefania V. Medzyak, 82, of Soap Lake in the crosswalk.
Castillo was charged with failure to yield to pedestrians.
Thief busted in hit and run collision
LIND – Adams County Sheriffs Deputies recovered a stolen four-wheeler and multiple other stolen items after being dispatched to a hit-and-run collision.
A sheriff's office spokesperson reported the deputies were dispatched to a burglary in the 500 block of East Lee Road in Lind, where the four-wheeler and multiple tools were stolen from, on April 20.
The following day, they were dispatched to a hit-and-run collision near the same location as the burglary. After investigation, deputies determined a possible suspect. The investigation led deputies to the 2400 block of East Nebraska Road in Spokane.
After obtaining a search warrant for the Spokane address, deputies recovered the stolen four-wheeler along with multiple tools and items from the burglary in Lind.
Anatoli Culev, 31, of Spokane, was arrested and booked into the Adams County Jail on charges of burglary in the 2nd degree, theft in the 2nd degree, theft of a motor vehicle, and hit and run attended.
The Adams County Sheriffs office expressed their appreciation for the assistance from the Spokane law enforcement agencies.
