RITZVILLE – The final event of this year's Distinguished Young Women program takes place Sunday, Mar. 28.
Held at Ritzville Grade School, the public is not invited due to COVID -19 restrictions, but the event will be aired live, beginning at 2 p.m.
Visit the Distinguished Young Women social media page and tune in to see the girls compete in poise (presence and composure), a physical fitness routine and answer an impromptu question at the microphone.
The talent demonstrations will also be aired live.
Dakota Killian will be performing a piano solo. Killian has accompanied the Missoula Children's Theatre in the past and has been playing the organ at her church all through high school. She said she enjoys learning new songs on the piano, including fun songs from movies.
Annika Lynn Holland will be playing the violin. Besides music, Holland said she loves to bake and cook, and her love of flowers has led her to make arrangements for many weddings as well as taking first in state on her floriculture team and fifth in state as an individual.
Sydney Isabelle Kinch will be performing a lyrical ballet. She said growing up in a musically gifted family, she has been around music all her life. With a passion for ballet and jazz, she has been dancing since she was five years old; and has assisted her grandmother in teaching dance to young students.
Amelia Court will be performing an original poetry recitation. She said her favorite movie is Dead Poets Society, and her favorite poem the self-penned "Who am I." She also enjoys capturing and observing life through painting, sketching, photography and studying psychology and microexpressions.
Advisor Kim Schofstoll said 50% of the scoring for the scholarship program is done before the program's final event, with 25% based on an interview and 25% based on a score of their academic performance.
