CHEWELAH – Lind-Ritzville cross country runners competed in a Northeast 2B League meet hosted by Jenkins High School in Chewelah Saturday, Mar. 6.
"The team did great," Coach Morgan Hunt said. "The weather was beautiful. The course was a little swampy, but it made it fun for the kids."
In the 1.25-mile middle school girls race, sole female on the Broncos team Maeve Korthuis placed 13th out of 25 runners. Korthuis, a seventh-grader, finished in 10:31.45.
"She's a very strong runner," Hunt said. "She came from a running background before the season, so that always helps."
The top three places were taken by runners from St. George's, with eighth-grader Josie McLaughlin taking first at 8:02.58. St. George's won among teams, with a score of 15, followed by NW Christian (Colbert) with 50.
In the 1.25-mile middle school boys race, Bronco Matthew Brown finished 17th. Brown, a seventh-grader, come in at 11:31.66. Seventh-grader Colton Lonning from Reardan finished first among the 20 runners, at 8:06.81.
Reardan won among teams, with a score of 25, followed by St. George's with 34.
For the 5,000-meter high school race, Asotin placed first among teams with 46 points, followed by Kettle Falls with 64. Senior Easton Pomrankey of Kettle Falls took first among a field of 63, coming in at 17:22.33.
Racing for the Broncos, junior Eli Michels came in 31st at 21:49.01. Freshmen Caleb Heater came in 50th at 25:27.3; and Levi Hoeft finished 57th at 28:18.03.
