Pro Pool Levy

Letter to the Editor

Here’s why I’m voting for the Park and Pool Rec No. 4 levy. No, we didn’t get to enjoy the swimming pool this past summer: no adult swim, no aerobics, no swimming lessons, and no visitors to Ritzville to share our State-of-the-Art Pool. However, here are the reasons I’m voting FOR the levy.

It’s been twenty years since our pool has been built and it’s in need of repairs, unfortunately expensive repairs. Maintenance requires keeping the boiler going, replacing pipes, fixing breaks, heaters, replacing the water and blowing out the pipes, patching the concrete, scrubbing the bottom and sides, painting and cleaning the changing rooms and resurfacing the pool.

Numerous expenses include chemicals, lifeguard swimwear as well as testing to become a guard, lawn chairs and other equipment, salaries, office supplies, a mechanic’s salary. Yes, expenses have gone up, but the contribution and incredible benefit to our community is invaluable.

To all of you who have enjoyed the use of the pool, whether you have learned to swim, watched your children or grandchildren play in the pool or, like me, have enjoyed adult swim, please Vote YES on the levy.
