Driver runs stop sign, airlifted to Sacred Heart

ADAMS COUNTY — A 20-year-old driver has been airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane after allegedly running a stop sign Tuesday, Sept. 2.

According to Washington State Patrol officials, Brandon Howes of Elgin, Oregon, was driving northbound on Booker Road shortly before 7 a.m. Tuesday. A second driver, Joseph E. Sunde, 63 of Seattle, was traveling eastbound on Highway 26. When Howes failed to stop at the stop sign, Sunde struck Howe's vehicle on the driver's side, according to WSP documents. According to officials, Howe was transported by an aid car to Othello hospital before being Lifeflighted to Sacred Heart.

Charges are pending on Howe.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

Following the collision, both vehicles came to rest on the northbound shoulder of Highway 26. Howe was driving a 215 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, and Sunde was driving a 2015 Chevy Silverado pickup truck pulling a 2008 utility trailer. Both vehicles and the trailer had reportable damage, according to WSP reports.
