SPOKANE — The state Department of Fish and Wildlife has temporarily restricted campfires and other activities at wildlife areas and water access areas managed by the department, east of the Cascades.
The restrictions, which began July 1, include fires or campfires; even those in fire rings. Personal camp stoves and lanterns fueled by propane, liquid petroleum, or liquid petroleum gas are allowed.
Smoking is restricted, except in an enclosed vehicle.
The discharge of firearms for target-shooting or other purposes by anyone not engaged in lawful hunting is restricted.
Welding and operating chainsaws, including the use of an acetylene torch or other open flame, is not allowed.
Operating a motor vehicle away from developed roads is restricted. Parking is permitted within designated parking areas, including developed campgrounds and trailheads; and in areas without vegetation that are within 10 feet of roadways.
The restrictions will remain in place until the risk of wildfire decreases, according to state officials.
