Two killed in crashes over July 4 weekend

Incidents occurred in Spokane area

SPOKANE — Two people were killed in single-vehicle crashes over the July 4 weekend near Spokane.

Eugene R. Myers, 56, of Elk, was killed Friday, July 3, when the motorcycle he was riding struck a deer, the Washington State Patrol reported. And on July 4, Jasmyne M. Travis, 21, of Spokane, as killed when her car went off an overpass.

Myers was northbound on his 2007 Harley Davidson on U.S. Highway 2 at Milepost 307, 15 miles north of the city, when a deer entered the roadway, the patrol said. Myers struck the deer, and veered to the left of the roadway onto the southbound shoulder.

Myers was ejected from the motorcycle, which came to rest in the southbound ditch of the highway, the patrol said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Myers was not wearing a helmet, the patrol said.

On Saturday, July 4, Travis was on the westbound Sprague Avenue on-ramp for Interstate 90 in Spokane Valley, the patrol said. She failed to negotiate an on-ramp curve and went off the overpass, coming to rest on the westbound Sprague off-ramp.

Travis was ejected approximately 30 yards from the vehicle onto the left shoulder of the westbound Sprague off-ramp, the patrol said. Travis was deceased at the scene.

She was not wearing a seatbelt, the patrol said.
