Washtucna cancels July 4 events

Chips available; scholarship announced

WASHTUCNA – The Washtucna Public Development Authority announced July 4 activities sponsored by the Lion’s Club have been cancelled, along with the Firemen’s Breakfast.

Dates for June activities include town council meetings at June 10 and 17 at 6 p.m., the Fire Commissioners meeting June 17, Second Harvest Food Bank June 23, and Washtucna School Board meetings June 23 and 26.

Summer Vacation Bible School has been cancelled, but the town is still hopeful for the pool being able to open according to the COVID-19 guidelines.

In other local news:

-- Wood chips are available for residents at town hall to take for free. The chips are made available from tree branches residents are allowed to dispose of in the brush pile at the back of town hall.

-- Calby VanHollebeke, 2020 Washtucna High School valedictorian, is this year’s recipient of the Washtucna Alumni Association Scholarship for $1,000. “We are pleased to have such a qualified candidate receive this award,” said Alumni staff. The award is usually announced at the annual Alumni banquet, which was cancelled this year due to COVID-19.
