Schools plan graduation activities

RITZVILLE — Lind Ritzville High School is holding a private graduation ceremony Saturday, June 6. Students will drive to the high school parking lot, and be called to the football field to receive their diploma. The community will have the opportunity to honor graduates with a drive-by parade following the ceremony. Students will be in a stationary location in front of the American Legion following the graduation ceremony, where those in cars driving past can honk and wave. The diploma ceremony begins at 1 p.m. is expected to last about 45 minutes, so students should be in the community location around 2 p.m. The American Legion is located at 106 Broadway Ave.

Washtucna High School moved their graduation from May 30 to a date to be determined in during late July or August.

“We are unable to provide a specific date based on Washington State’s Stay at Home orders and the phase that Adams County is in,” school officials said. “As soon as we know, we will post the information and provide an instant alert regarding date and time. Staff said graduates Emma Hulett, Daphnee Smith and Calby VanHollebeke expressed their sorrow for not having a traditional graduation.

Kahlotus High School Graduation for their four senior girls will be an outdoor celebration June 5 at 7 p.m. at the Kahlotus School District. Graduates will walk onto the field and sit in assigned seats appropriately spaced apart while their families remain in their vehicles (each graduate is allowed three vehicles). All other guests and supporters are asked to remain in their vehicles, parked on the football field. After the ceremony that includes speakers, recognition and awarding of diplomas, cars parked on the football field are invited to line both sides of Weston Street (Main Street), with seniors driving through with their families. Senior boxes, available in front of the cafeteria all day Friday, June 5, for people to leave gifts in, will be presented to seniors Serenity Davis, Kiernan Hartwell, Kaylin Olson and Alicia Stanaway at the end of the parade. The diploma presentation will be live-streamed on the Kahlotus School District Facebook page.

Sprague High School delayed their graduation until June 20 at 7 p.m. The ceremony, to be held outside on the east side of the gym, will be restricted-access only, and not open to the public.

Wahluke High School graduation is Friday, June 12 at 6 p.m. Seniors will parade around town and then receive their diplomas in the high school parking lot.
