Five students earn medals, national berths

RITZVILLE — Five Lind Ritzville High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America members have earned medals competing in virtual events at the organization’s state leadership conference.

Jessica Heater and Emma Davis received a gold medal for their “Chapter in Review,” and move on to compete at nationals in July.

“The Chapter in Review is everything we’ve done in the chapter over the past year, starting in September and including fundraisers, social events and community service,” adviser Donna Koch said.

The girls presented the project in front of judges at regionals Jan. 29 at Pullman High School, where they won a gold medal and the opportunity to go to State.

Alibama Rushing, Mollyann Hane and Madison Miller received a silver medal for their presentation of a sustainability project.

“The girls collected aluminum cans at school, and collected over 2,000 cans in a week,” Koch said. “They did a presentation on recycling; and using items that are recyclable, or items that have been recycled.”

The state conference, originally scheduled for March 18-20, was postponed to April 15 through May 15 and moved to a virtual platform after Gov. Jay Inslee shut down schools.

Nationals, scheduled for July 5, 6 and 7, will all be virtual, as well.
