Morfin arrainged for burlgaries

Ritzville — Adam Morfin was arraigned Monday, March 30, in front of Adams County Superior Court Judge Steven B. Dixon on charges of third-degree assault of a law enforcement officer and three counts of second-degree burglary.

Morfin allegedly assaulted Sgt. Thomas Solano on March 12.

The burglaries occurred in Othello on Jan. 16, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, court records show.

A trial has been set for 9 a.m. May 26; a pre-trial hearing will be at 10 a.m. May 18.

Morfin remains in custody on $5,000 bail.

Coronavirus cases increase

OTHELLO — Six new coronavirus cases were confirmed over the weekend, bringing the city total to 25.

Adams County health officials said Monday, April 6, the county-wide tally stands at 29, only four of which are in the Lind-Ritzville area — two in each city.

Of the Othello cases, 11 are connected to one family. Three of the Lind-Ritzville cases are in one family, officials said.

Local health officials said 163 people have been tested in the county; 107 returned negative and 21 results are pending.

Some taxpayers get extension

Ritzville — Some property owners affected by the coronavirus will get a reprieve on taxes this year.

Adams County Treasurer Kayla Meise said Monday she will forgive interest and penalties for those unable to pay their property taxes by the April 30 deadline.

The extension will only be granted to those who can demonstrate a financial impact due to the pandemic.

“The way the COVID-19 crisis is handled in the Treasurer’s Office is truly a balancing act,” Meise said.
