Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887

Changes to The Journal print days explained

Last week, you received your Journal a day early. That was not a mistake.

Due to the growth of our company, the Ritzville Adams County Journal is transitioning to a Wednesday publication. Under the leadership of Editor Katie Teachout, that means your newspaper will arrive a day early each and every week going forward.

Why the change?

In the last month, our family of newspapers has grown. On Feb. 15, we acquired the Odessa Record. On March 1, we took over ownership of the Whitman County Gazette and Colfax Daily Bulletin.

To make room for those products on our press, we had to make some delivery decisions to meet postal deadlines. That meant publishing the Journal a day early.

For our advertisers, that means moving deadlines up a day. The deadline to place advertising is now 5 p.m. Fridays. That includes display, classified and legal advertising.

We can also accept classified advertising placed through our webpage over the weekend, until 9 a.m. Mondays. The 5 p.m. Friday deadline also applies to students and athletes of the week.

Display advertising should be sent to sales specialist Kim Pearson at either [email protected] or [email protected]. Business customers can also give Kim a call at 509-235-6184.

Classified advertising may be placed at our office at 216 W. Railroad Ave., Ritzville; by calling Linda Pantzer at 509-235-6184 or by emailing her at [email protected]. Linda handles classified advertising for our newspapers in Ritzville, Cheney, Odessa and Davenport.Linda also enters paid death notices and obituaries for each of those publications. Our deadline for obituaries is 9 a.m. Mondays. For obituaries, email Linda at [email protected] or [email protected].

After those deadlines, we'll make every effort to get late-arriving ads and obituaries in the newspaper, but won't be able to guarantee it.

News, sports and community coverage and photography for the newspaper will be compiled on or before Monday.

So, if you have stories, letters to the editor, news tips, photographs, etc., please try to make sure our editor, Katie, has your submissions by 9 a.m. Mondays.

Katie is located in our Ritzville office, along with reporter and sports writer Jeremy Burnham. Feel free to email Katie at [email protected] or Jeremy at [email protected].

We'll probably have a few hiccups along the way, but the changes are sure to benefit both our advertisers and readers.

For example, with the Whitman County Gazette joining our family, we'll have reporters available to help us for sporting events that take place in Colfax. That'll mean more photos of local athletes, or events that take our youth to Washington State University for programs.

And while it means more access to news for readers, it also means more access to clients for advertising businesses. In short, our staff can help you get your ads out in surrounding communities, thereby helping grow local business.

As always, our door is open to you. Feel free to stop bye, call or email us at our Ritzville office.
