LIND --- Code enforcement continues to come up at Lind Town Council meetings. The council has taken the last several weeks to review town ordinances 11-01 and 11-02, which deal with what role a code enforcement officer would play.
Councillor Jim Dworshak said he’d like discussions to progress so that the council could start to take action at the next meeting on Feb. 25..
“I do not think that things as we are doing them now are effective at this point,” Dworshak said. “We need to carry it further to start eliminating distractions from this being a beautiful and better town, and a place where people want to come visit.”
Efforts to hire a code enforcement officer are in response to several town codes and ordinances not being followed. This includes people not picking up after their pets, not paying the utility bills and not properly caring for their lawns and property.
Mayor Paula Bell said that Lind isn’t the only town in the area looking to go this direction. Washtucna is also considering it. The council briefly discussed the idea of the two towns sharing a single officer.
Bell said to avoid any conflicts of interest, she would like to see someone hired from outside the two towns.
The Lind Town Council meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m. at town hall. The meetings are open to the public.
