Lind and Ritzville school boards consider updates to five policies

The Lind and Ritzville school boards had their first readings of five policies at the recent board meeting Dec. 17. But these aren’t new policies. These are updates to five existing policies recommended by the Washington State School Directors Association.

“Periodically, WSSDA updates policies and pushes them out to member districts for review and possible adoption,” LRS superintendent Don Vanderholm said in an email.

The five most recent updates to be be considered by the school boards are 2022 (Electronic Resources), 2140 (Guidance and Counseling), 3432 (Emergencies), 3520 (Student Fees, Fines, or Charges) and 5011 (Sexual harassment).

The most noteworthy update is the one to 5011, concerning sexual harassment, which completely rewords the policy protecting district staff from sexual harresment. The new wording includes mentioning of “hostile work environment” and clarifies that harassment off-site is still prohibited.

New date for graduation

Also discussed at the meeting was the upcoming graduation date. Both boards voted unanimously to move the 2020 graduation date from May 30 to June 6.
