Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
The Washington State Patrol announced on Nov. 19 that it will be conducting emphasis patrols beginning today, Nov. 21.
The patrols will run through Dec. 1 as Washington State University students travel across the state for the Thanksgiving holiday break.
During the emphasis, troopers in District 4 (Adams, Spokane and Whitman counties) and District 6 (Grant and Kittitas counties) will be focusing on speeding, which includes driving too fast for conditions, distracted/impaired driving and other collision-causing violations.
An increased WSP presence is expected to be seen on State Routes 26 and 195, as well as Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass. The WSP says it encourages travelers to pay close attention to posted speed limits and to be prepared for changing road and weather conditions. Current road and weather conditions on all state highways can be found by visiting wsdot.wa.gov.
The WSP says it also encourages motorists to prepare their vehicles for winter travel conditions. They recommend keeping a small emergency kit with water, food, blankets, winter clothing and emergency flares, as well as making sure all fluids in the vehicle are full, the vehicle’s battery is in good working order and the vehicle is outfitted with good all-season or snow tires.
“We appreciate everyone’s help and diligence to ensure that we have a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving this year,” said WSP District 4 Commander Captain Jeff Otis.
