Rep. Dan Newhouse, who represents Ritzville and Washington’s Fourth Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, reported raising over $130,000 in the previous three months for his 2020 re-election campaign.
To date, Newhouse has raised $372,358.26 during the 2019-20 election cycle and has $173,177.88 cash on hand. He filed to run for a fourth term in 2020 on Dec. 17 of last year, about a month after he was re-elected for a third term.
Of the just over $370,000 that Newhouse has raised for the 2020 election, $135,058.26 has come from individual contributors while $237,300 has come from political committees, such as PACs. At this time in 2017, Newhouse had raised $324,714.27 for his 2018 race.
Newhouse currently has no opposition in the Fourth Congressional District. The filing deadline for candidates to run in the 2020 primary in Washington is May 15, about seven months away.
In 2018, Newhouse, a Republican, faced off against just one competitor in the August primary election, Democrat Christine Brown. Newhouse received 63.2% of the vote in the primary, while Brown received 36.8%. Both candidates advanced to the general election, which Newhouse won after receiving a similar 62.8% of the vote.
Brown, a former Tri-Cities and Yakima news anchor, was the first non-Republican candidate that Newhouse had faced in a general election for his seat. First elected in 2014, Newhouse narrowly defeated ex-football player Clint Didier by less than 2% in 2014 and won by a more comfortable margin against Didier in 2016. Newhouse was supported by the more establishment wing of his party, while Didier openly identified with the Tea Party movement.
