Lind awarded $750,000 for water service improvement

The town of Lind has been selected by the State of Washington Department of Commerce to receive $750,000 of federal funds to make multiple water-related improvements.

The funds come from the federal government’s Community Development Block Grant program.

Steve Nelson of Century West Engineering had filled out the application on behalf of the town and gave details of the award to the Lind Town Council at the council meeting on Sept. 24.

The funding will go to improving water lines on Seventh Street, Sprague Avenue and Lutcher Avenue, as well as repairing fire hydrants, improving Well 8 and moving meters on Sixth Street from basements to the curbside.

Lind Mayor Paula Bell received a letter from Washington Department of Commerce Assistant Director Mark Barkley informing her of Linds selection for the grant.

The letter details some terms of the grant. Some steps need to be completed, such as the grant contract being executed, before most work can begin. However, Barkley writes in his letter that up to 10% of the grant can be spent immediately on administration, review of environmental laws, preliminary engineering design work needed for completion of environmental review and “subrecipient agreements or professional service contracts for any of the above activities.”

The Journal also reported on the city of Ritzville’s CDBG funding, which can be found in last week’s issue or at ritzvillejournal.com.
