Earlier this month, the Danekas Overpass on I-90 near Ritzville was struck by a truck.
This isn't the first time this has happened. Or even the second time. The accident on July 2 marks the third time the overpass has been struck in 12 months.
The first (and worst) incident occurred last July when an "oversized load" on a truck smashed into the bridge, causing about $500,000 of damage. Governor Jay Inslee declared a state of emergency to make funding to fix the bridge available. The bridge was repaired and re-opened on Oct. 29.
On May 21 of this year, a semi-truck struck the bridge, this time only causing enough damage to close it for a day.
The third incident did not cause any new damage to the overpass.
