William West

William West passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Lake Ridge Center in Moses Lake, WA.

William Roy (Bill) West was born May 11, 1938 to his parents Frank (Bill) R. Jr. and Esther E. Nuetzmann West in Ritzville, WA at the parsonage of the Philadelphia Congregational Church where his maternal grandfather, Hermann Nuetzmann, was pastor.

Bill lived in Washtucna until 1947 when they moved to the family farm between the towns of Washtucna and Ralston. Bill attended Washtucna public school and graduated from high school in 1956. While a student at Washtucna High School he played football, basketball, baseball, and served as student body vice president, and FFA vice president, and participated in chorus and played trombone in the band. He also sang baritone in the church choir, and spent many summers harvesting wheat.

He attend Washington State University in Pullman, WA and later graduated from Eastern Washington University, with his former wife (Sandra Sullivan) and three children, with a degree in Vocational Technology. His first job was at East Valley High School in Spokane, WA. He next worked for the Job Corps based in Moses Lake, WA and loved working with troubled youths.

He then spent twenty-five years at Wenatchee Valley College in Wenatchee, WA where he established the Auto Tech program. After retirement from teaching, with his wife Sabre West, he worked at Asmara mine and finally settled in Lynnwood and ended his working career at The Boeing Company.

He most recently resided in Fall City, WA with his companion Pat Erickson and was active with his church, Valley Christian Assembly, and the Carnation Senior Center. He was a regular participant there in activities and service.

He is preceded in death by his wife Sabre (Mickey) West, his daughter Carol Applebury, and brother-in-law George (Bud) Kreitle. He is survived by his son Richard (wife Deanna) and his daughter Christy (husband Helio Zavalza), his sister Anita West Kreitle, and sister Paula West Larson (husband Dean), his grandchildren Caiti Applebury and Kirsten West, and great-grandsons Easton and Benton Sapp.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 11 am at Washtucna Community Church located at 125 S. Church Street, Washtucna, WA 9937. A reception will follow the service.
