Two LRHS students to participate in three-day music festival at Pacific University in Oregon

Two Lind-Ritzville High School band members will be participating in a high school music festival in Oregon.

Senior Caden Liberty, trumpet, and junior Cole Cameron, baritone, will be traveling to Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, to take part in the Music in May Festival from May 23-25.

Students from throughout Washington, Oregon and Idaho are participating in the annual event, which is sponsored by the Pacific Music Department. The student musicians will be staying in residence halls at the university and will conclude the weekend with a concert featuring an orchestra, choir and band at the Stoller Center, Pacific's athletic facility.

Liberty and Cameron were selected because of the recommendation by Lind-Ritzville's band teacher, Jennifer York. They will be playing under the direction of guest director Dr. Mark J. Walter, the Director of Bands from Troy University.

The Music in May Festival is celebrating its 71st anniversary as the only college-sponsored high school music festival in the Pacific Northwest. In all, some 400 student musicians will descend on Pacific University for three days of rehearsals and lessons.

Admission to the grand finale concert is $8 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance by contacting the Music in May Festival office at (503) 352-2198.
