The 84th annual Junior Livestock Show of Spokane was held last week on the Spokane County Interstate Fairgrounds. Nearly 700 youth exhibitors of cattle, hogs, goats and lambs traveled from throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana to compete in the four-day event.
With a string of seven head of market and prospect cattle, the Ritzville Livestock 4-H Club was represented by Isaac Clinesmith, Alyssa Williams, Maeve Korthuis, Matthew Clinesmith and Reagan Korthuis.
Isaac Clinesmith received top honors with his 4-H Demonstration in which he discussed the topic of grafting calves to a panel of judges.
Alyssa Williams was elected by the exhibitors as a Beef Barn Captain, charged with assisting with the cattle shows and joining other specie Barn Captains to complete the necessary tasks during the market livestock auction.
In the market class, Williams' steer placed 11th overall and Matthew Clinesmith's placed 17th overall out of nearly 100 total head.
In showmanship competition, Maeve Korthuis (Junior Division) and Williams (Intermediate Division) were called back to the finals and Williams placed 3rd overall.
The Ritzville Livestock 4-H Club placed 4th in the Herdsmanship contest.
Club members also put their knowledge to the test in the annual livestock judging competition where they ranked various classes of market and breeding livestock and presented oral reasons.
The Ritzville Livestock 4-H Club has been traced back to 1928 and has a strong history of participation in the Jr. Livestock Show of Spokane.
