Brief: UW medical grad to give keynote address during National Prevention Week

Timothy Woodiwiss will be the keynote speaker during National Prevention Week next week at the Lind-Ritzville Schools.

Woodiwiss will be graduating from the University of Washington medical school later this month, and has went through quite the journey to get there, as detailed in a 2016 Seattle Times article. Woodiwiss grew up in Lind and dropped out of high school in ninth grade, opting to work at the McDonald’s in Ritzville where he hoped to one day become the manager.

A few years later, Woodiwiss returned to school and received an associate degree from Big Bend Community College. He served in the Washington Army National Guard for more than 10 years, and then earned his bachelor’s at Washington State University. He was then accepted to UW’s medical school.

Woodiwiss will be speaking to the junior high and high school student body on May 16 at 2 p.m. in the LRMS gymnasium. Community members are welcome to attend.
