Norman James Sackmann

Norman James Sackmann passed peacefully from natural causes on December 29, 2018.

Norman was born in Lind, WA on December 11, 1933 in the midst of a winter blizzard on the family wheat farm. Norman attended school from K through 12 in the Lind School District. It was there in high school he met the true love of his life—Joyce Aleene Zarndt. Joyce and Norman married on August 29, 1954. They were blessed with three children—Sandra, Jerry, and Sheryl.

Norman proudly served two years in the US Army—six months in San Francisco, CA, six months in Colonial Heights, VA, and a year in France. He returned home and operated a wheat farm just outside Connell, WA for over 30 years. Upon retiring from farming, he went on to manage the Connell branch of Golden Grain Ag-Chemical for several years.

Norman served as Treasurer at Gideon Lutheran for many years. He was also active in bowling leagues, Jaycees, and was even Grand Marshall of the Connell Fall Festival Parade in 2001. In his spare time, Norman took delight in attending the sporting and other activities of his grandchildren, fishing, doing puzzles, playing cards and games, and of course being a superior woodworking craftsman.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Trios Hospital, his Trios doctors, the staff at Parkview Estates, and those special angels who provided therapy. The excellent care and caring he received from all of you so very much helped him during his journey.

Norman was preceded in death by his beloved wife Joyce, his parents William and Martha, and his siblings Richard, Darlene, and Karen. Norman is survived by his children Sandra (Greg) of Pasco, Jerry (Billie) of Connell, and Sheryl (Mark) of Walla Walla, as well as his grandchildren Lexi (Ryan) of Kennewick, Parker of Monterey, CA, and Randy (Norma) of Spokane. Additionally, he is survived by his sister-in-law, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to Chaplaincy Health Care – Hospice (1480 Fowler Street, Richland, WA 99352) or the charity of your choice. A celebration of life will be held at Gideon Lutheran Church (213 South Burke Street) in Connell, WA on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 11 am. Arrangements by Mueller’s Funeral Homes.

Always a fierce competitor at cards and games, all we can say is look out heaven…here comes Norm! Love always and forever…you will be missed!
