The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos ended last week on a high note with a 60-34 thrashing against the Wilbur-Creston Wildcats to improve their record on the season to 2-2.
The week started on a tougher note for the Lady Broncos, as they fell at home 61-49 to a potent Oakesdale Nighthawks team on Dec. 4. LRS went into halftime trailing by 10 to the Nighthawks, and played a much tighter and more contested second half to keep the game relatively close throughout.
Sophomore Linnea Schafer led the Lady Broncos in scoring with 15 points. Seniors Lacey Miller and Brooke Koch had 12 and 11 points respectively, and junior Eliza Galbreath scored nine points. No other LRS player scored more than two points in the game.
But the Lady Broncos responded forcefully four days later on Dec. 8, going on the road to defeat the Wildcats 60-34 in Wilbur. LRS actually trailed by a point at the half, 20-19, before scoring 41 points and limiting Wilbur-Creston to just 14 points in the second half to win big. The fourth quarter was completely lopsided, as the Lady Broncos outscored the Wildcats 26-4.
Galbreath led the way for the Lady Broncos, finishing with 19 points as LRS put up the most points in a game in this still-young season. Miller finished in double-digits for the second consecutive game, finishing with 10 points. Four other LRS players scored at least five points in the game, and every Lady Bronco that played scored at least one point.
The Lady Broncos continue their season with the first two league games this week. They faced off at home against the Liberty Lancers on Dec. 11, who entered the game on a three-game win streak, including a thrashing over Chewelah on Dec. 4 and a win against Tri-Cities Prep on Dec. 7.
LRS then travels to Colfax on Dec. 14 for a league game against the Bulldogs. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. The Bulldogs are 1-3 on the season, and lost by three points to a Columbia-Burbank Coyotes team on Dec. 7 that the Lady Broncos beat by two points at home in their first game of the season on Nov. 30.
These are the only league games that the Lady Broncos will play until 2019, when they play the Reardan Indians at home on Jan. 4.
