2018 WLCF Results

Beef Classes

In the beef classes, there were seven 4-H market steers, four FFA entries and 10 open entry calves.

Alyssa Williams received grand champion for 4-H market beef, and Abby Gering earned grand champion for FFA. Reserve champions were Zoe Galbreath for 4-H and Taylor Galbreath for FFA.

For fitting and showing, Williams earned grand champion for 4-H and Gering received grand champion for FFA. Zoe and Taylor Galbreath received reserve champion in their respective divisions.

Swine Classes

In the swine classes, 4-H had 13 entries, while FFA members exhibited 22 hogs. There were four open youth entries and one adult entry for a total of 40 hogs.

In market classes, Amy Anderson had the FFA grand champion hog while Ella Greenwalt exhibited the 4-H grand champion hog. The reserve champion FFA hog was exhibited by Josh Crouse.

For fitting and showing, Thomas Rosen earned grand champion for FFA, and Anderson was the reserve champion FFA showman. In the 4-H division, Brenik Esser earned grand champion and Blake Esser was reserve champion showman.

Sheep Classes

In the sheep department, there were 10 4-H entries and 11 FFA entries.

For the market classes, Alibama Rushing had the grand champion FFA lamb, and Hayley Rushing exhibited the reserve champion FFA market lamb. The 4-H grand champion lamb was exhibited by Hannah Vasquez and the reserve champion lamb by Gemini Correll.

In fitting and showing, Meya Hamilton was the grand champion showman for 4-H, and Vasquez was the reserve champion 4-H showman. In the FFA division, Brynne Nelson was grand champion and Hayley Rushing was reserve champion.

Goat Classes

For the goat department, there were nine 4-H entries and three FFA entries.

In the FFA market classes, Alexis Melcher swept the competition to earn both grand and reserve champion. In the 4-H division, Bailey Dennis exhibited the grand champion goat and Emma Dennis had the reserve champion goat.

For fitting and showing, Thomas Rosen earned grand champion in FFA and Melcher received reserve champion. In the 4-H division, Emma Dennis earned grand champion and Bailey Dennis was reserve champion showman.

Rabbit and Poultry

There were 11 4-H entries in the rabbit and poultry departments, as well as one FFA entry, 14 youth entries and two adult entries.

In the FFA market division, Alexis Melcher received grand champion in fitting and showing and Best Opposite. In the 4-H division, Kile Noser had the Best of Breed, Best of Show, grand champion and reserve champion fitting and showing rabbit.

Case McBride earned grand champion fitting and showing, Best of Breed and Best of Opposite in the open rabbit division. Henry McRae had the Best of Breed for guinea and reserve champion fitting and showing for chickens.

Merit McRae earned grand champion for fitting and showing chicken, and Jace McRae earned Best of Breed and Best of Show in the open division for chickens.

Kaycie Noser was the grand champion rabbit showman for the 4-H division.

Round Robin

In the Round Robin contest, the grand champion 4-H showman was Alyssa Williams and grand champion FFA showman was Thomas Rosen. The reserve champion 4-H showman was Emma Dennis and reserve champion FFA showman was Abby Gering.

Herdsmanship

This year’s herdmanship was judged by chapter, with a total of 19 entries. The Washtucna FFA swine team of Josh and Zakary Crouse received a $50 payment each, and Olson family 4-H of Camron and Douglas Olson also received $50 each.

Field Crops

In the field crops department, there were a total of 82 entries this year.

Connor Kelln’s wheat weaving received first place and Vest of Show. Alice Weber earned first place for her artisan loaf, and Melanie Spivey received first place for amber waves.

Ryan Erdman earned first place for his jar and harvest photo, and Spivey received second place in the same division.

TanAn Hollenback earned first place in the youth jar and loaf contest. Lien Hollenback earned second place in the same division, and Spivey earned third place.

Donna Koch received the jar and loaf, and flour first place award in the adult division and Tessa Jantz placed second.

Also in the jar and loaf contest, Lori Williams earned first place, Tessa Jantz received second, Donna Koch was third place and Gaynel Gering placed fourth.

Fruits and Vegetables

There were 111 total entries in the fruits and vegetables department, exhibited by 19 adults, 14 open youth and one FFA member.

Best of Show went to Kasen Knodel for a white eggplant. Best of Class was awarded to Alaina Heider for a creature feature and Carolyn Gustefson for white seedless grapes.

Special Merit awards were given to Irene Rosenoff for her bountiful vegetable basket; Alexis Melcher for her field pumpkin; Byron Allen for rhubarb; and Vernon Wagner for the largest zucchini, weighing in at 7.6 pounds.

Plants and Flowers

In the plants and flowers department, there were 83 total entries.

Alexis Melcher received Best of Class and Best of Show for succulents in boot. Kin Schofstoll received the Decorative Pot award for houseplant/coleous.

Irene Rosenoff earned grand champion for bouquet arrangement. Best of Class and Best of Show went to Jim Tate for yellow glad.

Best of Class went to Byron Allen for his sunflower, and Philip Rich earned the youth Best of Class for his sunflower.

Special Merits went to Jerri Cummings for impatiens/flower pot; Carmen Allen for outdoor arrangement; Irene Rosenoff for delphinium cut flower; and Karyn Allen for orange floribunda roses.

Food Preservation

For food preservation, there were 89 total entries.

Best of Show was awarded to Irene Rosenoff for dried tomatoes and Loretta Hagen for pickled asparagus. Best of Show youth went to Isaac Rich for mint jelly.

Best of Class was awarded to Jadine Grams for peach salsa. Special Merits went to Alice Weber for gooseberry jam; Loretta Hagen for watermelon rind pickles; and Stevie Coon for corn relish.

Baking

There were 61 total entries in the baking department. Kim Schofstoll received the Best of Class award for Russian coffee cake, while Lori Williams earned Special Merits for white loaf and maple out scones.

Gaynel Gering received Special Merit for 50 percent wheat bread. Tracey Korthius received Special Merit for white bread and Best of Class for poppy seed art bread.

Carmen Allen received Best of Show for zucchini parmesan bread and Special Merit for chocolate zucchini cupcakes. TanAn Hollenback received Best of Show for orange rolls, and Hudson Stokoe earned Special Merit for butterfingers.

Leah Iverson earned Special Merit for dinner rolls.

Williams was named the Kaiser of Kuchen for her peach kuchen. First runner up was Natalie McKinney for sticky buns, and runner ups were Korthius for poppy seed art bread and Hollenback for orange rolls.

Machine Stitching

There were 34 entries in the machine stitching

department. Best of Class youth went to Melanie Spivey

for placemats and Landon Williams received Best of

Show youth for pillowcase.

Best of Class went to Carla Jerue for Christmas

stocking; Donna Koch for pillowcase; Yvonne Anderson

for Kilroy; and Pam Gering for framed Easter lily.

Best of Show was awarded to Donna Koch for

Christmas decoration.

Special Merits went to Darcia Dugger for table

runner; Donna Koch for apron; Yvonne Anderson for

table runner; and Marge Schoessler for purse.

Clothing

In the clothing department, there were 17 total

entries. Best of Class youth was awarded to Lienhoa

Hollenbeck for cover up. Best of Class were awarded

to Donna Koch for shirt, shorts and party dress; and

Rebecca Jensen for wedding dress.

Best of Show youth went to Melanie Spivey for

cover up. Best of Show was awarded to Koch for her

party dress. Special Merit went to Genesis Jensen for

wedding dress.

Handiwork

There were 68 total entries in the handiwork

department. Best of Show was awarded to Shirley Roth

for an afghan and Best of Show youth went to Julia Rich

for her afghan.

Best of Class awards went to Brenda Hulett for

framed cross stitch; Julia Rich for afghan; and Shirley

Roth for afghan. Special Merits were awarded to Lori

West for sashiko quilt; Jorene Zumdahl for showman

quilt; Brenda Hulett for framed cross stitch; Janice Doyle

for diamond embroidery; Donna Koch for framed cross

stitch and embroidered wall hanger; and Shirley Roth

crochet hat and scarf.

Quilts

In the quilting department, there were 53 total

entries. The Best of Show award went to Heidi Schell for

Sharon’s vintage rose.

Best of Class awards went to PJ Jacobsen for

kaleidoscope surprise; Marge Schoessler for spring

flowers; Yvonne Anderson for flannel for bells and let the

sun shine; and Donna Koch for tote bag.

Special Merit were awarded to Kim Lantes for full

bloom quilt; Claudia Graham for Lola and Olive and

red is the new neutral; Anderson for bodacious; Sue

Sackmann for summer sun and stacked farm animals; and

PJ Jacobsen for kaleidoscope surprise.

Schell also received first place for Sharon’s vintage

rose and Koch received second place for patchwork

garden in full bloom.

Arts and Crafts - Adult

There were 27 total entries in the adult’s arts and

crafts department. The Best of Show award went to

Spencer Olson for a metal rose.

Arts and Crafts – Youth

There were 118 entries in the youth arts and crafts department. Best of Show went to Tamera Wolf for wise words.

Best of Class awards were presented to Brooke Portrey for creative juices, and Jasmine Olson for metal rose. Olson also received a Special Merit award for Cougar key holder.

Photography

In the photography department, there were 127 total entries. The Best of Show was awarded to Natalie McKinney for child in apples.

The Best of Class awards went to McKinney for big smile; Dean White for bumblebee; Brian Bothum for streak, parade and 3.5 miles; Randy Roth for twins; Kayla Porthey for are we done yet; and Ginger Richards for cow photo bomb.

The Special Merit winners were Alyssa Williams for doing my thing; Logan Noser for snake; Drew McKinney for apples; and Jessica Heater for raspberry and soccer.

4-H Record Book

There were 38 4-H record books entered this year. The Special Merit awards went to Megan Melcher, Lucas Sitton, Alyssa Williams, Henry McRae and Harlee Hennings.

The Junior Best of Show winner was Melanie Spivey; Intermediate Best of Show was Blake Esser; and TanAn Hollenbeck received Senior Best of Show.

4-H Still Life

There will 603 entries in the 4-H still life department. TanAn Hollenback received four Best of Show awards, 11 Best of Class awards and three Special Merit awards. Lucas Sitton earned two Best of Show awards, two Best of Class awards and six Special Merit awards.

LienHoa Hollenback received five Best of Show awards, four Best of Class awards and four Special Merits.

Melanie Spivey earned two Best of Show awards, five Best of Class Awards and five Special Merit awards.

Wyatt Gordon-Miller received one Best of Class and three Special Merit awards.

Gemini Correll earned a Best of Show, Best of Class and Special Merit award. Drake Gloyn received one Best of Show and two Special Merit awards.

Aubree Sitton and Kayale Noser each received two Special Merit awards. Kile Noser received one Special Merit award.

Hailee Noser earned Best of Class and Best of Show awards. Iris Bough received Best of Show and two Special Merit awards.

Model Kits

There were 53 total entries in the model kits department. The Best of Show youth award went to Jaden Flowers for ultimate robber hideout and the Best of Show adult was earned by Kayla Portrey for pencil pinewood derby car.

The Best of Class awarded went to Jack Reidt for motorized basketball hoop. Special Merit awards went to Mathew Clinesmith for USA flag; Isaac Rich for dumpster truck; Jackson Nichols for silvers gym; Merit McRae for Harry Potter box and wand; Jace McRae for Lego airplane; and Henry McRae for Star Wars fighter.

Spinning, Weaving and Wool

Connor Kelln won the Best of Class award in the spinning, weaving and wool department for his woven rug.

Antique Machinery

The winner of the Best of Show award for the antique machinery department was Jim Tate for his tractor.

Woodworking

There were eight total entries in the woodworking department, with Hunter Cameron receiving a Special Merit award.
