Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos cross country team ended the first month of the season after competing in the Northeast 1B/2B South League meet at the St. John Golf Course on Sept. 25.
In the girls’ 5,000 meter race, Linnea Schafer finished eighth with a time of 24 minutes and 28 seconds, and Jordyn Fode recorded a time of 39:32.
Eli Michels led the Broncos in the boys’ 5,000 meter race with a personal record of 22:42. Ethan Hughes finished in 40:15 while Erik Hughes clocked in at 44:36.
Head Coach Morgan Walker said Sam Michels did not compete at the event because of illness.
Walker explained the St. John Golf Course provided a challenge for the athletes as they ran on steep hills and through a wheat field.
She said a few runners fell during the race, which lengthened their times. Although the Broncos’ final times were not as low as in previous meets, Walker was glad they finished the race.
LRS traveled to Northwest Christian on Oct. 2 to compete in a NE 1B/2B League meet.
Walker said the event will allow her to see where the athletes are compared to the other schools in the district.
For practice, the Broncos will focus on running hills and improving their mile times. The team will work on mental preparation leading up to the race.
