The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos volleyball team began the 2018 season on Sept. 6 with a nonleague win against Columbia-Burbank.
LRS defeated the Lady Coyotes in four sets, 25-12, 18-25, 27-25 and 26-24.
The Lady Broncos opened with a strong lead to clinch the first set. After they dropped the second set, LRS rallied to clinch the next two sets and seal the win.
Head Coach Cari Galbreath felt the Lady Coyotes were not in the game until the second set.
While the Lady Coyotes were scrappy throughout the match, she felt the Lady Broncos were the stronger team, both defensively and offensively.
Galbreath said LRS was able to play under pressure and build their confidence during tight situations.
Setter Lacey Miller had a standout game, leading both teams with 25 assists, 17 digs and three aces.
Eliza Galbreath finished nine kills and one block, while Ellie Gering recorded eight kills.
The LRS JV and C teams competed in the Broncos Invite on Sept. 8. Galbreath explained the tournament was a good opportunity for younger players to earn playing time.
The Lady Broncos opened Northeast 2B South League play against the Lady Timberwolves in Tekoa on Sept. 13. Tekoa-Rosalia began the season with a 3-2 loss against Garfield-Palouse.
LRS will travel to Rosalia to compete in the Spikefest Invitational on Sept. 15. The Lady Broncos play the Lady Timberwolves, St. George’s and Mary Walker in Pool A.
The top two teams from Pool A and B will advance to the Championship Bracket. The bottom two teams in each pool will be seeded into the Consolation bracket.
For practice, Galbreath said the Lady Broncos will continue to focus on fundamentals, refining their skills and working on rotation.
