Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
Three senior athletes will represent the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague track and field team during the State Track Meet at Eastern Washington University on May 24-26.
Rachel Schell, Rose Melville and Sierra Kiel all secured a trip to State after placing in the top three of their individual events during the NE 2B District 7 Championships at Central Valley High School on May 18-19.
Melville not only qualified for State in three events, but also set personal records in the 800-meter and 1600-meter races. Melville will also be running the 3200-meter race at State, after capturing first place in Districts. She is currently ranked third in the state in the 800 for 2B women athletes.
Kiel tied her personal record of 4’10” in high jump; a jump that landed her in sixth place at the State Track meeting last year.
Schell raced to a personal record of 26.37 seconds in the 200-meter during the District meet. Her personal best now ranks her third in the state in 2B competition.
Schell will be competing in the 100-meter and 200 sprints at State.
At the District meet, the LRS women’s team placed fifth with 58 points, while the Broncos men’s team placed 12th with 14 points.
