Eastern Adams County's Only Independent Voice Since 1887
Fifty-two candidates have filed for election at the state and county for the 2018 Primary Election in August.
There will be a contested race for the U.S. Representative office Congressional District 4, a partisan office with a two-year term. Incumbent Dan Newhouse will run against challenger Christine Brown.
Legislative District 9 has two positions on the ballot. For the two-year State Representative Position 1 office, Incumbent Mary Dye will run against opponent Jenn Goulet.
For State Representative Position 2, Incumbent Joe Schmick will be running against Mathew Sutherland.
Both positions are partisan offices with two-year terms.
For County Commissioner District 3, which is a partisan office with a four-year short and full term,
Terry Thompson, who was appointed to the position in May, is running against Miguel “Mike” Garza.
The county will also be voting on Assessor, Auditor, Clerk, Prosecutor, Sheriff and Treasurer. All of the positions are partisan office with four-year terms.
The Treasurer’s position is a partisan office with a four-year term. Candidates are Janet Manke and Kayla Meise.
Incumbents running unopposed are Sherri Brewer, Assessor; Heidi Hunt, Auditor; Randy Flyckt, Prosecutor and Dale Wagner, Sheriff.
For District Court Judge Position 1, Adalia Hille is running unopposed. This is a four-year term for a nonpartisan office.
Carolyn Benzel is running unopposed for District Court Judge Position 2, which is a nonpartisan office with a four-year short and full term.
The United States Senator office is a six-year term and there are 29 people who will be listed on the ballot in August, including Incumbent Maria Cantwell.
Also under the statewide elections, are the Supreme Court Justice Positions 2, 8 and 9, which are all six-year term positions.
