The City of Ritzville will celebrate Arbor Day on April 27 with local fifth grade students helping to plant trees throughout the city.
This year, trees will be planted at the Ritzville City Park, Ritzville Municipal Golf Course and Ritzville City Hall.
The Ritzville Tree Board is coordinating the event, as well as other local beautification projects throughout the city.
All fourth and fifth grade students in the Lind-Ritzville Cooperative School Districts will receive a Evergreen tree seedling, packaged by workers with disabilities, to take home and plant. The trees have been donated by Umpqua Bank.
Ritzville Umpqua Bank Manager Danielle Bolin said, “We are proud to sponsor trees for Lind Ritzville fourth and fifth graders to honor Arbor Day; And believe one way to leave a legacy is to plant a tree.”
“This project is made possible because community business people like Umpqua Bank cover the cost of each individually packaged Evergreen trees, so that there is no cost to the students, the teachers, the school, or the taxpayer,” Debra Ersch co-founder of the forester project stated.
“It is a wonderful way to show support for the community, education and the environment.”
